I can't believe I started out for Everybus with such a smooth running Vanagon and came home with such a mess! After finding out that I had accidently stuck the wrong distributor cap on, I also found the coil did not have the correct connector for the wires, so I ordered a new coil-put that on yesterday. Fired her up and took off on a test drive, made it one block and it died. Cranked and cranked but no start. I was about to give up and walk back home to get the old coil when it started. Drove around for about 15 minutes with a mix of running OK and hesitation. Went home and gave it some thought, remembered my suspecting bad gas-pulled the fuel filter off and what drained out was BLACK! Stuck a new fuel filter on and off for another drive. Much better, but still not 100%, maybe 95%. I'm sorry that while I had the fuel filter off I didn't drain some gas from the tank into a jar to see what that looks like, but that is my next step, to see what the gas coming out of the tank looks like.
