Very good writeup by Van-Cafe!

One thing, for the 1.9L (83-85) owner, remember that your "unique" sender is also located between the left pushrods but use a different unit! Part # 028 919 081D, and it's blue.

Also, i have seen blue low pressure sender on 2.1L with the correct .3 bar. Most of the time they are light brown.

As to the oil pump going wrong... well, it's far from the first thing i would suspect, BUT!!! i have seen "wrong gasket thickness" installed there!!! if to thick, oil pressure is to low. As opposed to Air-cool engine, Wasser use the oil plate as a " pressure regulator" (i'm sorry, i'm not sure which English word to use here) But it's the same principle as a water pump, the water pump use the engine case as a "regulator", by that i mean that if a worned water pump ate the fragile case mating surface, and you put a new one, it will produce less flow/pressure because the gap is now to big between the pump "impeller" (not sure here too!) and the case.
