Ah. I see your problem, pictures being worth a thousand words.....

You've routed the positive cable in FRONT of the battery (towards the
front of the vehicle), instead of from the side. This is not a
surprising mistake since you said the old battery was substantiall
smaller.

It is also tricky to get the battery in to the box AND get the cable
into the correct location. But it is doable (and the handle on the
battery helps.

No matter how I turn the terminal adapter, it doesn't fit inside the
cover.  As you can see, part of the terminal cover is broken, and it
doesn't shield the adapter completely.  The old cover fit perfectly.
Maybe I should have grabbed it off the core battery.
