Since it looks like you're up for some more cable rearrangement today (Monday), you might do the same test you did on the old battery - the one where you found the 1.3 A draw. If that draw is still there, it will happily kill your shiny new battery, too. If it is still there, start pulling fuses until you find it.

Pep Boys or the hardware store should sell a replacement clip that will work. The "official" name of that clip is a Tinnerman nut http://www.tinnerman.com/images/utype_sch.jpg and that name can serve as a useful filter. If you say "Tinnerman nut" to the person at the hardware store and they say "Huh?", that means you need to find a better hardware store. :)
