Hans and myself are thinking about adding to our engine conversion line with a lower cost conversion. While we still think the Subaru engine is the best fit for the Vanagon, we also understand that it is a bit more than many people want to spend on their Vanagon. As rebuilt WBXers get more and more expensive to keep running, our conversions are actually getting quite a bit more affordable. There is a price point where we will stimulate demand. We believe that it is 5500-5900 dollars. We would have to sell quite a few to make it worth while for us to produce it. Our conversion will be based on either a late model GM or Ford base engine. It will come with a complete exhaust and shortened oil pan. All accessories except AC will be standard. Just like our Subaru conversion, it will be extremely complete, with no wire splicing to be done by the installer. 2wd will either have to accept a little loss of ground clearance, or a slightly raised rear engine cover.
