Subject: Sliding door latch assembly (searched archives)
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed

Hi all.

While fixing sliding I found a problem.

Door doesnt' stay open. ( and frankly, I just learned that door is supposed to). It looks like latch on door that does this was disarmed or mangled by PO.

Is the arm in door latch assembly, that operates door-holding-open latch, (on door) operated with both inner and outer handle? Kinda makes sense that it would be.

Arm moves down with outer handle, but not inner. If inner handle turned too far toward to front (i.e. shutting from inside) it binds against and sticks against end of arm that operates latch to keep door open. There is a hole in part of mechanism that turns with inner handle that currently binds with aforementioned arm. It looks like it may have accept a spring, though nothing is present.

Has anyone taken apart the assemblie AND put it back together? Maybe with nuts/bolts?Pop rivets? Black magic?

Hope this makes sense, and thanks for any help.

Neil.
