Be careful! The '82 style vanagon dipstick mounted in the cap on the filler tube is very sensitive to the van being level to get an accurate reading. It can also take quite a long time after the engine is off to drain all the oil down to the pan. Overfilling this engine is NOT something you want to do! This can result in the crank spashing the oil, causing foaming, loss of oil pressure, etc. I tend to keep mine in the mid point of the dipstick range to be safe.
