I wonder if one or more of the CV joints were reassembled correctly. There are two ways to do it but only one of them works. The only time I've done it I had help that had done it before, so we got it right on the first try, but I can see where this would be an easy mistake to make.

If the CV joints are assembled incorrectly, they will probably still work as long as they don't have to swivel - in other words if the axle is completely horizontal (parallel to the road) from the transmission to the wheel hub, everything will be OK. If the wheel has to move up or down (bump in the road), they will probably complain mightily.

There is a sketch in later editions of the Muir "Idiot" manual that shows both ways. I have forwarded a copy of this sketch via pmail.
