Well I guess I wasn't very clear..... 4 cly. engines are and can not
ever be balanced.
Having a 4 cly. and at the same time a four stroke, when one cly. is
down, the
other three are exactly one stroke off. This means it CAN be balanced at
only and only one RPM.. As the engine changes speed the balance goes
out exactly
with All 4 cly's. Unlike a 3, 5, 6, 8 and up cly. arrangement. These
are never
exactly opposite of each other, in there stroke. Now .. there are
numerous ways
around this. BIG flywheels, counter balances shafts, full counter
weighted cranks,
etc. but I feel that if would be better off to avoid the problem with
a different cyl.

In the late twenties US car manufactures were giving up
on 4 cly.
to get around balancing problems.
