On what basis did you make this statement? I would cite a source to back this statement up or to say it really diplomatically.

I just looked up my Bentley and located a picture (not drawing) of the rear side of a split block. The hole I was talking about has connection to the chamber where the two crankshaft gears (to drive camshaft and distributor shaft) are located. It then connects to the chamber below the gears where the large diameter gear on the rear end of the camshaft is located. The center of this large gear has a slot for the oil pump driving gear shaft to reach and be driven by the camshaft.

The oil I poured in through the hole should end up in this camshaft gear chamber from which the oil pump driving gear is driven. Although there is a removable oil pump housing right there next to the large camshaft gear but because the oil pump driving gear shaft is in this chamber. Perhaps the oil I poured in reached the pump housing from this chamber through some openings that are not shown on the picture.

I dug out a Vanagon parts manual, full of parts drawings, given to me from JWalker more than 10 years ago. And I found similar drawings that show how the hole connects to the chamber right behind the oil pump. Thanks to the hospitality of JWalker I still look up this parts manual, almost 2 inches thick, from time to time for information.

This could be still a complete BS so use your own discretion. But I don't think it was coincidental for what I experienced. I can agree even the Bentley has the picture that shows it and even the Vanagon Parts manual has drawings about it I will still say that it can be just a fantasy of mine.

Hope this is diplomatic enough this time.

David
