Subject: Update on 1990 automatic
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed

Quite a while ago I had come to the list for help with my 90' automatic that we had just had its original engine put back in.

The symptom was that it ran fine until the ECU kicked in and then it ran rich, lost power, blew black smoke, and back fired. It doesn't have a stock exhaust (no Cat, No O2 sensor) and I thought maybe the O2 sensor was the problem.

Well, thanks to all of you and you advice it is fixed. It wasn't the O2 sensor but the Temp 2 sensor. I replaced that and was finally able to take it out last night. I had some accelerator cable issues so I couldn't road test right after changing the sensor.

Anyhow, everything is finally all put back together. It runs great, idles just under 1000rpm, and I was able to take in on the express way and get it up past 70mph no problems (previously the fastest I could get it to go was 52 and that was a lot of work).

It did have a couple of hiccups while up to speed but I think that is probably because that is the most that engine has worked since the PO removed it from the van - and that's been quite a while.

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions and help - I'm a happy guy and next weekend will be a happy camper at the Buses by the Beach gathering.
