No doubt, over-torquing Can cause irreversible damages. So what is the correct final torque number?

Can anyone further clarify the final torgue number on latest Bentley manual? Mine is probably too old with an outdated number of 25 ftlb (35Nm). Instruction sheet of Victor Reinz gasket set said 35 ftlb (50NM). Dennis said 37 ftlb (out of Bentley?).
