Yes, I am also having this problem. I have an '85 with an auto trans, too. My problem is most apparent when the throttle position switch is slightly out of adjustment. A tiny bit one way or the other will fix the surge on over-run problem. If you increase the adjustment too much, the throttle plate will be open slightly, but the idle switch will still be closed. Bad, because it leans out and has a flat spot at low throttle. If the adjustment is made too small, the switch may not always close at idle, with a very poor idle the result, becuse the ECU isn't getting the signal that the engine is at idle.
