>> There are actually a surprising number of vans left in PA. Lots of Germans immigrated to the Philadelphia area and bought another Volkswagen, my parents included. <<

Oh, there used to be a ton of VW's here. There are allot of garages around here, ALLOT, that used to be all VW shops. They all have aerial photos of their shops from the 70's and it's full of beetles and squarebacks. Phoenixville, where I live, is all German and Hungarian immigrants. When I moved here close to 20 years ago it was a VW Mecca. One shop had a lot full of used loaf Westy's and Vanagons at all time. The problem is all the shops are now run by the sons of the original owners and they could care less about VW's. When I bought my Westy 11 years ago all I had to do was open the Philadelphia Enquirer and look through the list if Westy's for sale. It just happened at the time my mechanic had one on his lot he was fixing that I bought. The Vanagon I had before my current one I bought off the lot of one shop that had so many there I got to test drive several before buying.

In the 90's I had an automatic '72 squareback as a daily driver.

Ah, the good old days...

Bryan
