Subject: Car climate tags for your vanagon
Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed

Just pondering a BurningMan trip this year [ 5000 mile RT ] along with thinking about how i

missed EveryBus again[ looked like fun! ]

Sadly - with gas heading to $4.00 + and all the climate change talk - it just seems better not to go! :O(

It appears that I will use 250 gallons of gas approx. [ 5000 miles/20mpg] to attend BM.

With the theme of "Green Man" this year- my attendance could be an oxymoron.

So I looked up Carbon offset purchasing for the vanagon and found this site [ there are several ]

http://www.carbonfund.org/site/pages/land/car_climate_tags

A yearly pass for our vanagons is $29.95! A lifetime pass is $400

I do not advocate a car climate tag as a guilt free way to burn gasoline. Everyone would agree conservation is a better mode.

[ Errr.... maybe that's why I missed EveryBus... yes that's it... ]

However - in lieu of the 42 mpg Subaru Diesel engine transplant and a desire to use my Westy for what it was made for.... I figure the following may help a little:

- A car climate pass

- A functioning catalytic converter/ oxygen sensor . I cringe when a listee describes how to "empty out" a converter because it is a nuisance or how to install a bypass pipe. - lets face it - they help with pollution reduction [ not carbon]

[They cost $99 /$55 from our vendors...] [ that's less as a stereo upgrade, an iPod, SA grille upgrade, 15 inch alloys, a second battery or a Fiamma awning....]

A survey of carbon credit services :

Happy camping!
