sounds like the old german dude was full of scheitz.
all north american market vanagons have a sticker on the body next to the gas
cap that says:
BLEIFREI - UNLEADED FUEL ONLY
uniquement carbeurant sans plomb
indiced oktane/oktan min 91 ROZ/RON
