I found that late 80s 88~92 jetta & golf had a 'special feature' on their TRUNK switch (same as your sliders) They have a NOTCH that allows it to be 'set to off' even while the door is open.. This is a VERY good thing for a camper where you want to use the interior lights, but always have to shut em down while camping so you don't drain the battery... It automatically 'resets' on the next door close/open cycle so you can have interior lights if necessary.. Or jt slide it in to the notch and lock it in the off position.. Look for one at a junkyard or VW show.. Maybe inquire with the dealer but I do not know the part number I discovered these entirely by accident when I bought a jetta that had a serious electrical drain. PO never noticed while driving daily. But when the jetta became the 2nd car.. It'd sit for 4~5 days and battery would go dead.. Appearantly theres a nub that pushes on the pin switch when closed was missing and the trunk light was always on.. Dan in NY
