Although it is a PITA, you can clear your own UPS packages. You will have to do down to a customs office (hopefully there is one near by) to fill out the paperwork. It only takes a few minutes once you figure it out. Then pay customs their appropriate duties & taxes. You will have to have the UPS shipment ID with you and commercial invoice. When the package shows up at your door refuse it on the grounds they automatically cleared it for you. Then go pick it up at the local warehouse with your documentation from customs. You should also have the package marked "Hold for pickup - customer will broker".

Trust me this really pisses off UPS. :) I've had to do this for places that will only ship UPS.

I got transfered around, and recieved 4 different telephone numbers, getting to the bottom of this.I even got the brokerage house in Ottawa Canada. This guy could not give me the price.I started thinking that they didnt want to give this information out. Dont want to blow a real money maker ,up there. I finally got there with this number 1-800-263-8125. The young UPS lady does know her stuff, and here it is.... There is NO UPS brokerage fee on items valued at less than $20 Canadian. She can even give you the daily exhange rate, on request. $20 Canadian turns out to be about $17.50 US(today). Also the brokerage fee is included in the shipping price for any UPS air shippment. So, big deal 20 bucks? What can you buy in America for $20 Canadian? How about a set of stainless steel screws for the exterior of your Vanagon? http://stores.ebay.com/werksforwagens > > > > --------------------------------- > Get the free Yahoo! toolbar and rest assured with the added security of spyware protection. >
