Try to clean the distributor cap. If it has jumping sparks inside the engine won't run either. Try another rotor. Make sure the distributor shaft is not lifted (a little) and disengaged by itself. Check the coil. Are there jumping sparks between the leads and the center core? Mine somehow has been always dirty. Have to clean it from time to time. If you see sparks there the engine won't run. It happened to me before. I once got stuck after filling up gas in a gas station. Before AAA tow truck arrived I pulled the cap and cleaned it. I drove away afterwards. It was a very unusual sight to have the tail gate open. Engine cover out. And trying to fix a Vanagon right next to a pump. I now carry several rotors and caps in my Vanagon all the time. David
