Well, it did not total it immediately. It took a few years to get it done. It did crack the windshield first. After that it managed to leak coolant into the oil pan. Then the whole engine fell apart. The Chassis still looks like a new car. You probably won't believe it. It cost $20k in 1980. It has a V6 wasserbox engine in it. Sorry this is the only Vanagon content in this post. David
