If the 1A doesn't clear, I've had real good luck using hardwood spacers in various thicknesses to get the necessary clearance. Sorry, but I just don't trust those skinny pieces of plastic with anything of value on my roof. But then I'd use wood railings for the bars anyway. Those slick plastic coated bars are a PITA for shoring up kayaks and canoes and most other items that contact the bar. I use the Quick n Easy brackets which are made of cast metal and they need a little shimming, but only about 2".
