>>Y ears ago I decided to get a 2nd Vanagon identical to my 1st one. It would be very convenient to swap AFM and ECU which may be your van's problem. By any chance your idle stablizer's two connectors are not plugged in? The two needs to be pluged to each other for timing adjustment. Once timing is set they should be plugged back the stablizer. If they are not connected and (not or) not plugged back to the stablizer the engine won't run. <<

I checked and re-checked all connections. All I did was put on a new distributor cap and rotor and then put the old parts back on. I have spark, fuel, etc. but no start. I never got around to setting the timing.

Yes, it would be nice to swap parts but I have not convinced the wife on a 2nd Vanagon yet.
