Hi all.

Thanks SO much for responses. I will read when time permits as there looks to be some really useful/interesting material.

As it stands, through conversation with front end person at Honda, (this is in Canada folks) it turns out that there is a bulletin regarding front pads. Paraphrasing from memory, I was told......

'pads contained too much metal, therefore wearing rotors prematurely'.

Can't recall exact details, (i.e. pad name/material... think it started with a "P") but the fact that rotor wore down before "metal on metal", now makes sense.

FWIW, (other Honda 04 Accord owners) On work order is says:

"Install new front rotors as auth'd by owner. N/C....as per Adv 86 and bulletin"

I wasn't charged for rotor Re&Re.

Of course now I'm wondering if they were in fact replaced and not just turned, as they look thin to my eye.

(But that would be "suicide" for a dealership to do no?? --- ;^)

I will measure with calipers *soon* to make sure.

Anyone know thickness of new front rotor for 2004 Accord EX?

And for anyone else with an 04' Accord, if your rotor wears before pad gets down to metal (assuming original pads/rotors) ask if there's a bulletin on this.

Neil.

At that mileage and even the next brake job your rotors should be fine unless they get warped or grooved. I would not mess with anything but OEM pads and rotors on the car as most are not of the same quality and you will not be happy with the results. Did they tell you what the rotor thickness was? We have lots of customers that have 100,000+ miles on their original rotors so I find it hard to believe that yours have worn thin in that short of mileage. Feel free to pmail me with more specifics, thickness, etc, of you like as I have a full shop of Honda & Acura trained technicians at my disposal. > > Mark in AK > Assistant Parts Manager > Continental Honda > Continental Acura > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: neil <musomuso@GMAIL.COM> > Date: Wednesday, May 16, 2007 3:13 pm > Subject: Riddle me this... Why would the rotors wear to the point of having to be replaced?? I get the feeling they know something I don't (like orig rotors cheap product) as they quoted me around $300 for pads/hardware/rotors installed. Rotors were $93 ea., so that plus pads etc. AND labour maybe should be higher? (I'm not argueing!) Should I specify a different type of pad next time? Sorry for attempting to avail myself upon the help of Vanagon people, but this has me puzzled.> > > -- > > Neil Nicholson. 1981 Air Cooled Westfalia. > > > > http://web.mac.com/tubaneil > > >
