I had a similar problem years ago and found that my regulator had cracked. The propane specialist at an RV center posed a very plausible scenario. My regulator had accumulated some condensation on a hot day and then when the temperature dropped below freezing the expanding condensation cracked the regulator. He mounted the replacement at a slight angle so the condensation would drip off. I had been camping where the temperature was in the upper 70's during the day and dropped down below freezing at night. This may not be your situation but it might be worth checking.

Hi all,

Filled the propane tank the other day as a pickerel fishing trip was on tap. ( caught a bunch )

In any case, I turned on the valve to allow the gas to flow to the stove. There was not the usual quiet "click" as the machinery went to work, but rather a elongated hiss of escaping gas.

Then a subtle click as the escaping gas flow took several seconds to slow and then stop.

I went fishing but on my return a young fellah mentioned that he had smelled propane near the van. So I turned off the valve.

On my return home I got on the ground, took off the cover over the regulator, turned on the gas and could hear and feel gas escaping from the regulator area. Not through that perforated screen, but an area "behind" and between the two major parts of the regulator system.

A long explanation to ask do I need a new regulator? What is the wisdom of the list ?

Thanks.

Barry Mercer Sudbury.
