Thanks to all. They came right out with pliers.

I am interested in replacing these with LEDs. I see no number on the bulb assembly. Has anyone found an LED replacement? On www.superbrightleds.com/specs/inches/74_t15.htm they show two similar assemblies. They are the T1.5 and the B8.3D assemblies. The VW lamp looks more like the B8.3D unit to me but some measurements are not the same. Has anyone crossed this bridge before?
