It could be done now, but the TDCI is not available in the US, and there is no parts infrastructure either. If you're willing to drop 15-20k on the conversion and a few thousand a year with lot's of maintenance downtime to have one, then you could do it. Otherwise it'll be 2011-2013 before it'll make practical sense, and even then it's only a maybe since legislation is in place and coming on strong to keep diesel from growing in the light duty markets.
