simple it has to do with US over consumption. we on the whole buy stuff and throw it out long before it has reached the end of its useful life cycle. this stuff doesn't just end up at the local salvation army for local reconsumption. we are in a global market. this stuff gets containerized and shipped worldwide and sold in markets that can extract the full usefulness of the product. as i travel i see poor people world wide wearing american clothing, tshirts, pants, etc. i've asked a few of them if they knew the meaning of what the tshirt they were wearing meant and the common answer is no. more often they like the pattern, color, image, or simply just needed something cheap to put on their back.

i worked in a machine shop with a man from nigeria and i assisted him in buying low cost items to ship back to nigera so that his family could sell them. used shoes that you might see at the curb as worn out and trashy were on his list of things that were in high demand in his area of nigeria. he said there were lots of vw vans there and that i could rent a nice house in his area of the country for $500 a year. also he knew of the nigerian scammers as they had honed their skill inside the country first before hitting the internet, but he had no idea how well represented his country was on the internet by scammers.
