Most people will tell you it is not good to run the tank dry because of the risk of sucking any sediment at the bottom of the tank into the fule pump. However, I think you should run the tank dry as many times as you can - as a preventative measure for keeping the inside of the gas tank clean. Just make sure to change your fuel pump filter every time you run the tank completely empty.

On my '88 it will run out of gas pretty shortly after the gauge needle is to the left of the red. (Fumes setting)

Generally I get about 215-230 miles from a tank of gas. On very good days up tp 260.
