Thanks again, you guys. It was a "lazy lifter," as Benny put it. Whew. A little ATF in the oil and revving the 1.9l WBX engine, which I had to do anyway to bleed the cooling system, took care of all but a slight valve tick. One of these days, I'll adjust the valves. I'll change the oil/filter to fresh, summer, 20w-50 when I get the shifter behaving. (Please, let's not re-start an oil thread!) Also, properly crimped a new terminal onto the *inner* green O2 sensor harness wire. Which is getting pretty short - its hanging loose obviously an ongoing problem. Attached the black wire from the sensor. The O2 sensor light went out, there's less idle-seeking, and the exhaust smells much lighter. Probably could use a new sensor, but I'm on to the shifter.
