Hi Volks, Summertime in England means I'm back on the list and have a question which I haven't resolved looking at the archives. I recently went in our 82 Vanagon to the Lake District - we ran well and camping was excellent BUT...the hills caused real problems with my brakes - to the point that it was quite scary coming off a particularly steep incline - I was troubled because a) they have only very recently been overhauled and b) the constant use downhill (sharp turns) steep incline etc they got really hot and noisy! I am wondering if anyone has ever installed disk brakes at the front instead of the padded variety we have on our machine, it seems to me that this is one retro aspect of the Vanagon I am having trouble coming to terms with. Any ideas of how to beef up brakes then are most welcome. Warmest wishes for the summer ahead :) Paul 82 Vanagon Westy |
