Thanks to everyone for the suggestions!

I have my strategy for the best approach and now have a weekend project (well hopefully just an hour or less), as I have to replace my Aux. Fan in my 2000 Volvo XC as well.

Plus prep my van for the strip and repaint project and I can't forget...

The "honey do" list!

Jack

Jack and all,

Jeff is right on this one as for as putting up with this. This is not something to pinch pennys on. The replacement parts are cheap and the labor on a scale of 1 to 10 is about a 2. Most of that 2 being that if you have to replace the heater valve then it means a little more work because you have to open the coolant system a bit. But it's really pretty easy.

Like Jeff, I let mine go for a year or two when I should've just wrestled with it in the first place. I wouldn't even bother with lubing the valve myself. I'd just go ahead and replace it. It will last for a long time. But before that, you should check, and if needed the control wire. I found that mine had kinked and just replaced it with a new one. It's such a cheap part I don't see any reason to bother with the old one.

The reason I took so long to replace mine was because I was living in the Northeast and only used that 86' van during the cooler months of the year "most of the time". So I didn't suffer too much. But if I had to do it over again I would have fixed it right away.

So get out there and get your hands dirty...

Steven
