Hi Loren: I'm not sure just how accurate most ammeters were/are but you will recall from your younger days that when you set the ign. switch to "ON" the meter always deflected to the right 1/2 'unit of measure. That's on a 60 amp. ammeter, where there were 3 lines (or 4 spaces) before you got to '60'. If each line was accurate and I don't think for a minute that they were; then it would have been 1/2 of 15 or about 7.5 amps. That sounds quite high but perhaps starting the fuel pump, charging the alternator and the various dash warning lights as well as the various solenoids; it very well may be reasonable. Short of using an actual digital meter, that's my best guess. Why do you ask?
