> The e10 is about the same as running a tank with HEET or another gas "dryer" In Colorado we had MTBE for 2-3 years starting about '88. Then E10 since--from November 1st to March 1st. That's only in the front range area of Colorado. Before, I almost always had a freeze-up early each winter in my '81 air-cooled. A can of Heet would fix it. With the ethanol mix, I have never had a freeze-up, assuming the ethanol was keeping any water from building up in my tank. Of course, this is a dry climate where condensation is not a big problem. The MTBE was a big problem and very unpopular with FI cars-- like Volvos--because it softened lots of gunk in the tank or lines. Most gas didn't have much in the way of cleaning additives in those days. Colorado gave up MTBE because--we have corn farmers.... Richard Boulder |
