I have a few of those clamps and it seems that the edges and knobs are
rounded enough not to be a problem for the canvas. Plus, there is a
version of the clamp that can be used to hold a binocular to a tripod,
window or just about anything. Sort of double-duty clamps. Also, there
may be a lighter, cheaper clamp made for photography that could work as
well. I suggest the super clamp because it is really strong and
versatile.
