Ryan,

If you're asking this Jim (the one who started the thread), I'm no expert--it was others who have done it using the new Vintage Air systems.

Vintage Air apparently offers two versions, one with heat and one without. The one with heat allows you to replace the Vanagon's heater, so no, you don't have to rely on just the rear heater.

I'm sure you'll hear from someone who has done this. I have the old Behr aftermarket underdash system, which probably has some ease-of- installation benefits over the Vintage Air, since it was made specifically for the Vanagon, but I don't know all the facts since I haven't installed either.

I have heard that the Behr performs better--and wouldn't they all?-- if you install a second evaporator somewhere under the car and use a more up-to-date (more efficient) compressor with the unit. Again, there are those on the list with specific model numbers and experience; I'm just passing this along for general consideration. It would be nice to have a single AC FAQ somewhere, wouldn't it?

Jim
