It's an air vent so air can escape as water fills the tank. Should be a vinyl hose attached to it and leading to a small hole near the filler port on the outside. Jerry

redoing my water lines. in between the in and out of the water tank on top i have a black glob plugging a hole. does any know what is supposed to be there? pic available?
