I have a Tiico engine in one of my Syncros. Based on my experience I would NOT try to go with a taller 4th gear on it. If you have the AC on and hit any grades, the stock gearing barely lets you maintain speed at 65 mph. Now granted, at higher rpms you'll have a bit more power, but by installing a taller 4th, you are forcing yourself to lower power, something that just won't cut it unless you live in Kansas.

Actually. That's wrong. Kansas has a grade. It's not visible, but if you are going west you are definitely going uphill and a Vanagon will notice force you to notice that.
