When you say, all that 20 years of grime, it tells me that your mechanic did not even clean it before working on it. He might not even taken the whole engine out the first time he replaced the head gaskets, yet one has to take the whole thing apart to bits almost. And one has to be clinically clean when all the goodies put together. Besides, it is better to have the engine vertical when one puts the head on with the tubes. So, grime and dirt and shit is not in. I'm thinking the leak looks like a mixture of oil and coolant due to heavy grease and road grime that has built up on the original block over the last 20 years. It just looks too watered down to be oil.

Andrew,

Thought #1> Oil AND coolant could not leak out the same headgasket fault, IMHO. Thought #2> Is it in the same spot as the other two times? There could be a problem with the head bolt in that spot i.e. stretching due to rust.

Hey All,

My '87 GL may have sprouted its third passenger side head gasket leak in 30K miles......

.....What seems to be a mix of oil and coolant is dripping from the block "nub" towards the front of the vehicle.
