Check around at the main branch of the public library in the largest cities near you. One or more of them should subscribe to the "Mitchell" line of automotive repair manuals. These are the best ones you can get short of the factory manuals and usually have quite good wiring diagrams. They usually don't circulate, so take some nickels for the photocopier. Some libraries have an electronic version (at the library only) of these same manuals, but print and study a page before you print out the whole thing; some of the earlier manuals were scanned at as much as 50 dpi and therefore you can't read them.

Some libraries even have factory manuals on the reference shelves - I get the impression that sometimes dealers or independent shops donate their older manuals for a write-off. These are also usually non-circulating, but they should be listed in the card catalog.
