This is a bit misleading. Nothing you describe is because of it being an eBay purchase. The Vanagon might just as well have been found by word of mouth, craigslist, or autofinder. Auto "auctions" on eBay are completely different than other eBay auctions - winning an auto on eBay is not a binding contract for the buyer, a buyer can legitimately back out after inspecting the vehicle.
