Hi Benny, I did not pay attention who said it. Any way, I think it makes sense
that the gaps were factory trimmed to proper gaps already. To me the risk of
breaking one or more rings is too high. Handling rings is not trivial. Now that
3 of my cylinders get excellent compression it is unlikely the cause of the
#3 problem now.
I did another round of compression check again today with the engine hot. The #3
became 115 PSI. After I squirted some oil into the spark plug hole it shot up
to 140 but after one more round of checking it was really about 125. This
seems indicate that the rings are not completely seated yet. It may still be
a valve sealing problem though. I will try to find a place to do a leak down
test for me.
I added some miles to it today and now it has reached 300 miles. I can feel that
the engine is gaining horses every few days. It's really not bad at the current
state. I bet most people who test drive it will not suspect anything. I have
oil level in between the max and min marks but I have 10w-40 in the engine.
Hope this engine will be ready for my next Yosemite camping trip in about 3 weeks.
