I always keep the old races the first time I replace a set on a new vehicle,
and then grind down the outside diameter on a grinding wheel. I grind them
until the old race can slip into the wheel hub register easily, and I can
pull it back out with my fingers.
That way, when I install the new races, I can tap the new race in part way,
and fully install it using the ground down race on top of the new race to
finish it off and seat it firmly in the hub register, with out damaging the
new race itself.
It has worked for me for 30 years.
