Is this a North American model? If so, an 86 should already have the tach wire run to the dash, even if it came without a tach. The 2.1 dual/dynamic oil pressure warning system in the instrument cluster uses the tach signal. It is a green wire, running from the coil all the way to the instrument cluster.
