Of course, it could be a number of things ... and maybe more than one problem.

On two different 1.9s I had the symptoms of ... would start fine cold and would restart ok if within 5 or so minutes of shutdown when warm. But, if I waited longer than 10 minutes I had to wait about 2 hours. On both of those the fix was replacing the fuel pressure regulator.

The hot tailgate and rear apron could be a clogged cat.
