thanks to all for the comments. Just what I needed - massive
reassurance that regearing is NOT the way to go.  Now I can get a
regular transmission, and when I'm rolling down the freeway, I won't
be thinking "I shoulda had this regeared"....

Once more, thanks for the collective experience and advice.
