Before I dropped the engine to replace the liner the #1 and #3 had a compression of 90 PSI only. The engine consumed a lot of oil and was powerless before the the rebuild. All other 2 were around 120 only. I believed I needed a new set of liner.

I checked quite carefully the heads before installing them. They were put on my westy by a VW dealer 30k miles ago. I also have a set of used AMC heads for comparison. The rebuilt heads from VW showed virtually no valve guide wear and no damage that can be visually seen.I lapped them really well and my alcohol leak test showed no leak before I put them on.

Do you think I still need more miles to make the rings on #3 to seat? I have had only 250 miles on them. Am I worrying anout it too early?

David
