I am also working on a design using off the shelf cheap "U" bolts & wing nuts, baltic birch plywood shelf w/ a hinged vertical plywood piece attached w/ holes for the U bolts/wing nuts that could be suspended from the cross bar for use, but folded flat & stored when not in use.
