Hi folks,

Me again. Same old problem. I've tried some of the suggestions so far, but things still aren't right. I'm wondering if anyone can point me in a new direction. It's driving me nuts.

The Van: Aircooled 82 Westy Vanagon, California Edition

The Problem: The van bucks and shudders on deceleration.

The Details: - Plenty of power on the highway, but seems low on power at lower speeds or when accelerating from a stop - The problem gets WAY worse in the rain, sometimes to the point of stalling. - Idles fine and starts fine, but doesn't sound quite right to me. When its running well it has a nice smooth purr, and now it sounds kind of hollow. I'm not sure how best to describe it - I have the temp II sensor on the passenger side cylinder head, not at cylinder 3 where it should be. The hole was stripped on three, so I put it in the available hole at cylinder four.

What I've done so far: - Checked voltage at the fuel pump - OK - Checked fuel pressure - OK - Checked Compression - OK - Checked timing - OK - Cleaned up the ground connection on the engine block - Wiggled various other electrical connections - Stood around staring at it.

Any help would be much appreciated. I'd like to take a summer trip mountain bike trip with my wife, but don't want to get too far away until I've got this sorted out.

Cheers, Greg. 82 westy
