Patricia-
I agree with Jack, don't do it. From your e-mail, it sounds as though
your situation is only temporary. If you make a rash decision based on
temporary circumstances, you will come to regret it. I am in the process
of finding a good home for my van. But, in my case, the circumstances
will never change and, while I may regret the necessity of my decision,
I won't regret the decision. So, take time and think it over.

Patricia,
Don't do it!!! Global warming will prevent future snow storms. (at least
that's what Al Gore is telling us).
If you get stranded in a Westy, at least you have a place to sleep in
comfort. Anyone can own an SUV, but it takes a special person to own a
Westy!
Yes, I own an 84 Westy, and 2 - AWD wagons (1997 Subaru Outback, and
2000
Volvo Cross Country)... and when it snows, I take these cars. I try not
to
subject my Westy to the salt, slush and snow of the Michigan winters.
In the past, when I did drive my Vanagon in the winter, a set of snow
tires
really helped me make it through the winters on my northern Michigan ski
/
snow adventures. Yes, I did keep a set of easy to strap on snow chains,
just in case.
Keep your Westy... it will only go up in value, unlike the SUVs of the
world.
My 2 cents...

Hi.
We have a very nice 1988 maroon Westy camper (M/T) with 121k miles
(zero
rust, reliable, clean Carfax, well maintained) and due to recent changes
with which I will not bore you, the family has voted to explore trading
it
for a small SUV. (We're in New Mexico and got stranded for more than a
week
during last week's storm. Maybe that influenced the outcome.)
I've been reading this list for a long time and thought I'd ask here
if
anyone might be interested in an even exchange? We'd be especially
inclined
toward an older but reliable 4wd Honda CR-V or Toyota RAV-4 in good
shape
(that is, comparable to our van). Will send photos upon request.
I'm posting here before doing so on the Samba.
Thanks,
Patricia
