I also plan to run Lucas oil treatment in my newer motor. My only concern with 5 weight oil is that it is designed for today's engine's small clearances and tight tolerances. Our older motors are not quite as precise, which would make me think that a thicker oil would protect better. As for synthetics, I have nothing but positive experiences with them in my Vanagon campers. I just added Lucas synthetic treatment and it helped with the lifter pump down as well.
